The Government of Egypt ordered this Monday that hospitals in several provinces of the country be put on alert in the event of “any medical emergency” that may occur in relation to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman Husam Abdelghafar said in a statement that the order was given to hospitals in northern Sinai. [o mais próximo da passagem de fronteira de Rafah]Suez, Ismaília, Port Said, Damietta, Sharkia, Cairo and Giza, all in the northwest of the Arab country.
The Egyptian Minister of Health, Husam Abdelghafar, held a meeting with health authorities from all these regions to follow the situation of the health system in these areas, which could face a possible crisis given the situation in Gaza.
The ministerial spokesperson added that the plan includes sending several mobile clinics to treat some cases and relieve pressure on hospitals.
“A plan is also being studied for ambulance services to attend to any case,” the note adds.
The Egyptian action plan in the event of a hypothetical emergency includes the provision of therapeutic services, either in specialized surgeries or in the treatment of complex injuries, fractures, burns and critical medical cases, as well as monitoring of chronic diseases, preventive services and provision of vaccines and necessary serums.
The Rafah crossing is the only exit from the Gaza Strip that is not in the hands of Israel, which for more than a week has been bombing the territory where 2.2 million people live in retaliation for the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel on last October 7th.
Around 2,750 people have been killed and more than 9,700 injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. In Israel, more than 1,400 people were killed in attacks by Hamas.
The UN estimates that the war between Israel and Hamas has left more than a million people displaced in the Gaza Strip since October 7.
