The Israeli government authorizes the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza from Egypt

The Government of Israel will authorize the entry by Egypt of limited amounts of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.

According to the same source, the decision was approved due to a request from the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on a visit to Israel.

In a statement, the Israeli executive indicated that it “will not prevent” the supply of food, water and medicine, as long as these goods do not reach the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which on October 7 launched an attack against Israel that left more than 1,400 dead. dead, prompting heavy Israeli retaliation and a siege of the Gaza Strip. The note does not mention fuel, which is running out.

It was unclear when aid would begin entering the Gaza Strip through Egypt’s Rafah crossing, which has limited capacity and, according to Egypt, was damaged by Israeli airstrikes.

Israel, which controls most entry points into Gaza, says it will not allow humanitarian aid to be sent through its territory to that poor Palestinian enclave since 2007, controlled by Hamas, a group classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel.

The Israeli Government also demanded that the international Red Cross be authorized to visit Israelis kidnapped and held hostage in Gaza.
