The Israeli army claims to have killed another military leader in Gaza

The Israeli military said Thursday it has killed a Palestinian military leader, several Hamas militia members and the founder of the female branch of the Palestinian Islamist group in Gaza, in addition to destroying hundreds of facilities.

Israeli intelligence officials say warplanes shot down Popular Resistance Committees leader Rafat Harb Hussein Abu Hilal in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip bordering Egypt, Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said. on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The Popular Resistance Committees are the third largest militia in the Gaza Strip, after Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

“The Israeli army continues today to attack the Gaza Strip,” targeting “hundreds of Hamas terrorist structures, including dozens in Shujaiya,” a neighborhood in Gaza City, another Israeli army spokesman said.

Among the structures attacked were anti-tank missile launch sites, tunnels, information infrastructure and additional command centers, as well as dozens of mortar launchers.

“During the fighting, there were numerous Hamas terrorists belonging to the ‘Nukbha’ forces [força de elite]who led the “barbaric invasion” of Israeli communities were attacked, the spokesman added, causing more than 10 militiamen to be killed in a “precise airstrike.”

The Israeli army also claims to have killed Jamila Abdullah Taha al-Shanti, member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (the Palestinian parliament) and founder of the female branch of Hamas, in a bombardment in the Gaza Strip.

“The Legislative Council regrets the death of deputy Jamila al-Shanti, who was killed this morning during bombings in the Gaza Strip,” said a statement shared by the Palestinian newspaper ‘Filastin’, affiliated with the armed group, via the social network Telegram .

The 68-year-old parliamentarian is the widow of Abdelaziz al-Rantisi, who founded the Palestinian Islamist group with Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and was killed in an airstrike by the Israeli army in Gaza in April 2004.
