The PP has taken advantage of its majority in the Senate to make opposition to the law that could lead Pedro Sánchez to the presidency of the Government. The votes of the Catalan independentists are essential for the inauguration of the socialist, who has already made it known that he is working on a bill that “facilitates coexistence” in Catalonia and amnesty for those involved in the Catalan independence process of 2017, but has not provided details. The negotiations have been developed in a very discreet manner and the PSOE is not willing to fuel the discussion in an environment led by the PP.

Isabel Rodríguez, spokesperson for the Government and Minister of Territorial Policy, has stated that this Senate Commission is “very important to deal with issues that really affect the autonomous communities, such as public services”, but that this is not the motivation of the PP. , which “dedicates itself to a single cause: tension.” In the opinion of the Executive, the people are “using the Senate” for this and, therefore, “the Government will not participate in the session.”
Pere Aragonès will be the first to speak in the session. “The president will defend amnesty and self-determination as a mechanism for resolving the political conflict,” explained the advisor to the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà.
With this movement, Pere Aragonès also regains a certain prominence for his party, Esquerra Republicana, which had been eclipsed in recent months. Attention focused on Junts per Catalunya, the party of fugitive Carles Puigdemont, who voted against Sánchez’s investiture in the last legislature and whose votes are decisive this time.
