The Ukrainian president announced that an “important international meeting” on his Peace Formula, a 10-point proposal to end the war, will be held in Malta this month.
“I have informed President Biden of an important international meeting on the Peace Formula that will take place in Malta this month,” Volodymyr Zelensky said in his address to the nation this Thursday evening, during which he reported a telephone conversation with the American counterpart.
“The United States supports the implementation of the Peace Formula,” he stated.
Zelensky also referred to his Thursday conversation with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in which he praised “the active participation of the UN in global efforts on the Formula for Peace.”
According to the Ukrainian president, the UN is “willing to send a representative to the next meeting”, which, as he explained, will bring together advisors to presidents or governments that support the document.
The Malta meeting will be the third organized by Ukraine in this format. The two previous meetings, held this year in Denmark and Saudi Arabia, were attended by dozens of advisors to governments and presidents from around the world, convened by the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andri Yermak.
Ukraine intends to organize a summit to approve the Peace Formula with the presence of as many world leaders as possible, but many of the leaders who sent advisors to the meeting have close relations with Russia and were not available.
Among the points of Zelensky’s peace plan are the return of military and civilian prisoners and the protection of the environment, nuclear, energy and food security. The key point is the restoration of the territorial integrity recognized by the UN.
Critics call the plan fanciful, since one of the conditions is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
