The Palace of Versailles was evacuated this Sunday due to yet another bomb threat, bringing to seven the number of times this palace on the outskirts of Paris has been evacuated for security reasons in eight days.
“For security reasons, the Palace of Versailles is withdrawing visitors and will reopen once the investigation has been completed. We thank you for your understanding. Checks are being carried out and the Palace will be accessible again once everything has been completed.” says a post on social media.
A police source quoted by BFMTV television confirmed that it was a new bomb threat.
The Palace of Versailles itself published at 2:05 PM (local time, 1:05 PM in Lisbon) that, once the checks were carried out, the doors of the facilities would be reopened.
The number of bomb threats, all false so far, has increased in France since the jihadist attack that claimed the life of professor Dominique Bernard in Arras on October 13.
The Palace of Versailles was evacuated on Saturday, October 14 and the following Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
According to police sources, a 37-year-old man with serious psychiatric problems was arrested in the Paris region on Friday because of the false alarm that was reported by telephone on Wednesday.
The bomb warnings resulted in the opening of 22 judicial investigations that could result in sentences of up to two years in prison and fines of 30,000 euros.
