King Charles III’s coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, in London, on May 6 of the following year, Buckingham Palace announced this Tuesday.
Carlos will be “anointed, blessed and consecrated” by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will conduct the ceremony, according to a statement from the Royal Household. His wife, Queen Consort Camilla, will also be crowned, according to the document, quoted by AFP.
The ceremony “will reflect the monarch’s role today and look to the future while rooted in ancestral traditions,” according to the same text.
The long-awaited confirmation of the date comes just a month after the death of the monarch’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, followed by some speculation about when this ceremony would take place.
Carlos succeeded his mother immediately after her death on September 8, and became head of state for the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth countries, including Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
