Ukraine said on Tuesday it has recovered the remains of dozens of civilians killed in Russia’s invasion of two cities in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, recently recaptured by Kiev’s forces.
“In the liberated cities of Sviatogirsk and Lyman, law enforcement officers discovered the sites of mass burials of civilians”the attorney general said in a statement, adding that 34 remains were excavated in Sviatogirsk and another 44 in Lyman.
Authorities found about 110 graves at a cemetery in Lyman, the prosecutor’s office said.
“The youngest is only one year old. He is buried next to his entire family,” said the public prosecutor.
Ukraine has accused Russian troops of committing serious crimes after discovering numerous mass graves and graves of dead civilians or victims of torture or summary execution in reclaimed territory.
Russia systematically denies all these accusations.
