A drone attack on a nuclear power plant in the Kursk border region was halted on Thursday evening, Russian authorities said on Friday, adding that there was no damage or increase in radioactivity at the site.
“On the night of 26/10/2023, an attack took place with three enemy drones [ucranianos] at the Kursk nuclear power plant was stopped. This event did not affect the operation of the plant,” the company that operates the nuclear power plant said on the social network Telegram.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported this attack, which took place at 11:50 PM local time (9:50 PM in Lisbon), but without specifying that it targeted the nuclear power plant in the Russian city of Kursk.
“The radiation in the Kursk plant and in the area where it is located is at normal levels,” the operator said, specifying that the attack “caused neither casualties nor damage.”
“The Kursk factory is working normally,” he added.
On the Ukrainian side, eight firefighters were injured on Friday morning in a Russian shelling of a barracks in the northeastern city of Izioum, Interior Minister Igor Klymenko announced.
The governor of the southern Mykolaiv region, in turn, reported an attack with Iranian-made drones on Thursday night, which resulted in no casualties.
According to the Ukrainian presidency, a child was also killed in overnight shelling in the northeastern region of Sumy.
