Netanyahu apologizes for the tweet (now deleted) criticizing security officials

This Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister criticized those responsible for his country’s security for underestimating the risks of a major attack by Hamas, in a message written on the social network X that he later deleted, prompting him to apologize.

“Never, under any circumstances, was the Prime Minister warned of Hamas’s belligerent intentions.”wrote Benjamin Netanyahu on the X Network (formerly Twitter).

“All security officials, including the head of military intelligence and the head of homeland security, believed that Hamas was afraid to act and was looking for a compromise. This is the assessment that has been submitted several times to the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. by all security officials and the intelligence community. Until the war broke out.”continued the head of government.

The tweet, which was published in the middle of the night after a Netanyahu press conference, was deleted in the morning and no longer appears on X, after being replaced by an apology tweet a few minutes later.

“I was wrong. What I said after the press conference should not have been said and I apologize. I fully support everyone responsible for safety. I support the chief of staff, commanders and soldiers of the Tsahal (Israeli army) who do so.” fighting at the front for our home. Together we will win”Netanyahu wrote.

At the press conference with Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz, member of the small war cabinet, the prime minister admitted “a terrible failure”.

“There was a terrible failure here and it will be analyzed to the end. I promise that no stone will be left unturned. For now, my mission is to save the country and lead the soldiers to total victory over Hamas and its forces. angry,” he declared Netanyahu before publishing the tweet accusing the military leaders.

Many political analysts in Israel believe that Netanyahu’s political career was seriously jeopardized by his failure to guarantee the protection of the population, one of his election slogans.

The final straw for the departure of the leader of the right-wing Likud party, who holds the record for the longest tenure of a prime minister in Israel, could be for an independent investigative commission to determine his responsibility for the negligence behind the October 7 attacks preceded. According to local authorities, more than 1,400 people were killed, most of them civilians and most of them on the day of the Hamas attack.

Hamas, which has been in power in Gaza since 2007, claims that more than 8,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed by bombings since the conflict began.

Netanyahu’s published message and his denial were widely commented on today by the Israeli political class and media, and even Hamas responded.
