The Israeli army attacks several targets in Syria after rocket fire

The Israeli army announced on Monday that it had attacked several targets in Syria in response to rocket fire, amid fears of a regional extension of the war with Palestinian Hamas.

“A fighter jet recently attacked rocket launchers launched yesterday from Syrian territory towards Israeli territory. [domingo] at night,” the Israeli army declared on social media, quoted by the French agency AFP.

According to Israeli public radio Kan, the affected locations are in the Deraa region of southern Syria and are linked to Iran’s allies.

The Syrian Defense Ministry confirmed in a statement that “the Israeli enemy” had carried out an airstrike from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The attack targeted “two armed forces positions in the Deraa region,” he said.

The Syrian ministry added that the attack caused material damage, without mentioning casualties.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) said the attacks targeted “an artillery battalion” in Deraa province.

According to the London-based organization, which has an extensive network of sources in Syria, Syrian and Palestinian groups linked to Hezbollah launch rockets from the Deraa region.

Since October 7, the date of the bloody Hamas attack on Israel, the Israeli air force has carried out several strikes in Syria, targeting, in particular, the airports of Aleppo and Damascus.

Tensions are also high on the Israel-Lebanon border, where there are almost daily exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and pro-Palestinian armed groups, including the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Hamas ally Hezbollah claimed on Sunday to have shot down an Israeli drone over Israeli territory with a surface-to-air missile.

The Lebanese militia today admitted the death of two of its members, bringing to 47 the total number of militants killed since the start of the conflict.
