Israel announces airstrikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah

The Israeli Army reported this Tuesday that it carried out airstrikes in Lebanon against the Shiite movement Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

“Combat aircraft recently attacked the infrastructure of the terrorist organization Hezbollah in the territory of Lebanon,” the Army announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“Among the infrastructure attacked, weapons, positions and locations used by the organization were destroyed,” the Army added.

The increase in tensions on the border between Israel and Lebanon raises fears of a regional expansion of the war between Israel and Hamas, triggered after the Islamist movement’s attack on October 7, which killed more than 1,400 people, mainly civilians, according to The authorities. Israelites.

Hamas claims that more than 8,300 people, most of them civilians, were killed in retaliatory Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, Hezbollah announced the death of one of its fighters, bringing to 47 the number of members of the group killed since October 7.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati assured that his country is doing everything possible to avoid being dragged into the conflict, stating that he fears “that an escalation of the conflict will spread to the entire region.”
