A possibly armed man is holding at least one person hostage at a post office in Saitama prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, local Japanese authorities said Tuesday.
At around 2:15 p.m. local time (5:15 a.m. in Lisbon), “a person took hostages and took refuge in a post office” in the city of Warabi, the authorities of this municipality indicated on their Internet portal.

Authorities indicated the attacker was in possession of an object that appeared to be a firearm.
The incident occurred as police investigated a previous incident related to one or more gunshots heard in the same area earlier in the day.
Two people were slightly injured in the incident, the cause of the injuries is unknown.
Television images showed the alleged attacker in the post office, wearing a dark jacket and cap and holding what appeared to be a firearm.
