US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will meet in San Francisco (US) in November, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said she hopes this meeting, the possibility of which the Chinese government had already anticipated, will be “constructive”, following promises by the two leaders to try to improve relations between the United States and China to recover. .
Although Jean-Pierre did not specify it, this meeting should take place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), which will take place in San Francisco in mid-November.
Last week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Washington, in a meeting interpreted as preparation for this highest-level meeting.
Biden and Xi have vowed to try to restore economic and diplomatic ties, after a long process of disagreements and incidents that began with the “economic war” declared against China by former US President Donald Trump in 2016.
