The Kremlin on Thursday refuted the statements of the head of the Ukrainian army, Valeri Zaluzhni, about the “stagnation of the war”, stressing that the Russian military campaign continues to achieve its objectives.
“No, the conflict is not at a standstill. Russia continues to carry out the special military operation. All set goals must be achieved.”Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this at a press conference.
Zaluzhin wrote in an article published in the magazine The economist that the war has stagnated in a positional phase and that no major maneuvers on either side should be expected.
The Ukrainian general believes that to get out of this situation, which indicates stagnation, “major technological progress” is needed.
Valeri Zaluzhin acknowledged that he was wrong to believe that the heavy losses inflicted on the enemy (Russia) – which he estimated at 150,000 dead – could stop the war.
These statements from the head of the Kyiv army come five months after the Ukrainian counter-offensive in which Ukraine advanced only 17 kilometers, the British magazine said.
Peskov responds by saying that Kiev “must understand” that it cannot defeat Russia on the battlefield.
“The sooner the regime in Kiev understands this, the more perspectives can open up (for a solution)”Peskov concluded.
