Israeli attacks on the Al-Shifa hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, intensified “dramatically” overnight, the non-governmental organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported this Saturday.
“In the last few hours, the attacks on Al Shifa hospital have intensified dramatically. Our team at the hospital reported a few hours ago of a catastrophic situation inside the hospital,” the NGO wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The director of Al-Shifa hospital claims that the hospital is “completely surrounded” and stresses that “anyone who moves is a target” for Israeli forces.
“We are minutes away from dying,” he told Aljazeera.
MSF reiterates its call to end attacks on hospitals and protect health facilities, medical staff and patients.
“We cannot withdraw and (leave) people inside. As a doctor, I promise to help people who need help,” said Mohamed Obeid, a surgeon quoted by MSF.
On Friday, Israeli troops began surrounding Al-Shifa Hospital and several other major hospital centers in Gaza.
The Gaza Strip’s Health Ministry, run by Hamas’s armed wing, said on Friday that at least 20 people were killed in an Israeli attack on Al-Shifa.
More than 11,000 people were killed and nearly 27,500 injured in the Gaza Strip in the war that broke out on October 7, following a Hamas attack on Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 240 kidnapped.
