Republican Tim Scott announced that he is withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, with two months left to vote in the caucus in the US state of Iowa.
The senator announced his retirement on Sunday during the “Sunday Night in America” program with Trey Gowdy, who seemed surprised after the interview.
The news comes at a time when Scott continues to have difficulties in the polls and a few days before the third debate of the Republican primaries, in which he once again failed to prevail.
Scott, the only black Republican in the Senate, announced his intention to run in May and entered the race with more money than any other Republican candidate.
However, he has been unable to find space in a field dominated by former President Donald Trump.
