Macron says Putin must ‘go back to the negotiating table’

Russian President Vladimir Putin must “return to the table” of negotiations, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday during a televised interview largely devoted to the war in Ukraine.

“Today Vladimir Putin must first and foremost end this war, respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and return to the negotiating table”Macron said in France 2, guaranteeing he didn’t want a “world war”.

According to the president, France will provide “radar, missile systems” of air defense to Ukraine to protect Ukrainians from attacks and “in particular to protect them from drone attacks”.

The French president also reiterated that France is considering handing over more Caesar weapons to Ukraine.

“We have delivered 18 since the start of the war, we are working on the delivery of six additional weapons with Denmark”, he stated, explaining that these six weapons were primarily intended for the Danish army. We are trying to deliver it to the Ukrainians as soon as possible,” he explained.

Kiev has asked its allies to bolster its anti-aircraft defenses after two days of intense Russian bombing throughout the territory, but especially in the capital, killing dozens of civilians and destroying infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the creation of an anti-aircraft “shield” over Ukraine.

During the interview, Macron also warned that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will face “trouble” in the country if he gets further involved in Ukraine’s war on the Russian side.

“If President Lukashenko decides to engage further in this war, he will do so against the advice of much of his people and he will do so by taking on a responsibility that I believe will not be without problems. .”said the ruler.
