At least 179 bodies were buried this Tuesday in a mass grave excavated in the Shifa hospital complex, according to the director of the Gaza health unit, adding that Seven premature babies died due to lack of electricity to keep them alive.
“We were forced to bury them in a mass grave,” Mohammed Abou Salmiya, director of the hospital, told France Presse.
“There are corpses scattered in the corridors of hospital facilities and the cold rooms of the morgues no longer have electricity.”, because not a single “drop of fuel” has entered the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, on October 7, he added.
Today “a woman and a man died in intensive care,” reported doctor Abu Salmiya, raising to 29 the number of patients who have died in these services since the power supply was cut off last Saturday.
A journalist who works for Agence France Presse and who was inside the hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, reported that the “smell of decomposing bodies” was suffocating.
Fighting and airstrikes continued throughout the night on Monday.but with less intensity than previous nights, adds France Presse.
On Tuesday, Israeli tanks gathered at the gates of the hospital, considered by Israel to be a strategic hideout for Hamas.
