“We’re not sure if they’re still alive.” Medical team “trapped” in Al-Quds hospital

The Palestinian Red Crescent stated this Tuesday that the medical team at the Al-Quds hospital, in the Gaza Strip, remains “trapped” in the facilities, while Israeli forces advance on the ground.

The organization stated that it was not sure of the team’s situation in the hospital and highlighted that it was not able to leave due to the siege by Israeli forces and clashes with members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the area.

“We are not sure if they are still alive or not,” said Nebal Farsaj, a spokesman for the organization.

Israel accuses Hamas of using civilian areas to store war material, which it has bombed despite international condemnation.

The Israeli Army on Tuesday demanded the neutralization of a “terrorist infrastructure” that operated in civilian buildings in the Gaza Strip, including Al Quds University and the enclave’s main mosque.

The Israeli Armed Forces reported that, in addition to missions near the Al Shati camp, explosives and weapons were seized at the Abu Bagr mosque, the university and other government buildings.

The Palestinian Red Crescent has been trying for six days to contact its teams at the Al-Quds hospital, but has only been able to communicate with them by radio, a situation that Farsaj described as “unstable” and subject to “distortions.”

The same person in charge estimates that the 300 hospital patients will not be able to leave either, with the nearby roads closed, and that those who remain inside the hospital “hear constant bombings and gunshots.”

The organization denied on Monday the presence of Hamas militants in the hospital and condemned “the false accusations by the occupation forces about the presence of armed individuals launching projectiles from inside.”

The organization’s general director, Marwan Jilani, stated that the Red Crescent is receiving “several calls” reporting that there are “dead people on the roads, under the rubble and even in their homes and that families cannot bury them because they cannot go out.” “.

Jilani explained that the “situation is quite catastrophic” and that “all hospitals are out of service and those that are operating are at a minimum, without electricity or fuel and with a serious shortage of water and food, both for the teams and for the patients.” patients.” and hospitalized people”.

According to the organization’s general director, the Al-Quds hospital is surrounded by the Israeli army.

“No one can venture outside the hospital or get close to the windows because there are snipers shooting,” he said.

The CEO also added that two people died and several were injured as a result of the shooting.

“We tried to evacuate those who remain in Al-Quds hospital, where there are around 50 patients and their companions, as well as our teams, but our attempts failed, we could not evacuate them,” he concluded.

Israeli forces also accuse Hamas of launching missiles into Israel from or near civilian buildings – including hospitals, schools and mosques – and of having established underground command centers in Gaza under the same type of facilities, to deter retaliation.

Israeli forces assured this Monday that they had evidence that Hamas fighters were holding hostages in a children’s hospital in the Gaza Strip, a place that had an underground headquarters of the Palestinian Islamist movement and a room “full of weapons.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed, in a statement, that they found “many weapons in the basement of the hospital, including explosive belts, grenades, guns and missiles” at the Rantisi hospital in the northern Gaza Strip. RPG”.

“A motorcycle with gunshot marks was also found, which was used by Hamas terrorists in the October 7 massacre. In addition, signs were found underground indicating that hostages were being held in the room,” Israeli forces said, that for more than five weeks They have been fighting a war with the Palestinian Islamist movement.

Among the evidence presented in a video by Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari is a baby bottle or a piece of rope tied to a chair.

“This is currently under investigation, but we also have information that confirms this,” Hagari added.

Israel and Hamas have been at war since October 7, when the Islamic extremist group invaded the south of the country from the Gaza Strip and killed 1,200 people.

Since then, Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, has said that more than 11,000 people have been killed in Israeli bombings and ground operations in that territory.
