The Islamist movement Hamas, in power in the Gaza Strip, announced this Sunday the execution of five Palestinians, two of them for “collaboration” with Israel.
The death sentence was carried out today “against two people convicted of collaborating with the occupation and three others in criminal proceedings,” it said in a statement.
Hamas also guaranteed in the same note that all convicts were assured “the full right to defend themselves” in local courts.
The Ministry of the Interior of the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian territory under Hamas control since 2007, did not identify the five executed, and only indicated some information on each of those convicted, providing their initials and the year and place of birth.
The two people executed for “collaboration” with Israel were two men, born in 1968 and 1978.
The older of the two, who was “hanged”, was sentenced by local courts for having provided Israel since 1991 with “information about the members of the resistance, their places of residence” and about “the places of manufacture and launch of rockets”. “. , specified Hamas, created by AFP.
The second, who was “shot”, was found guilty of having provided Israel since 2001 with “information” that “led to the attack and martyrdom (death) of citizens” by Israeli forces, Hamas added, without naming the people who would have been killed as a result of that alleged leak of information.
The other three people executed had already been convicted of murder, according to a statement from the Hamas Interior Ministry.
