A 23-year-old Brazilian woman died this Friday from heat stroke, before the first concert in Rio de Janeiro of the American singer Taylor Swift, who this Saturday mourned her death.
According to statements by a friend of the young woman to the newspaper O Globo, the deceased was a psychology student at the Federal University of Rondonópolis and died due to the heat.
On her Instagram account, Taylor Swift confirmed the death, said she was shocked by what happened and sent condolences to her follower’s family and friends.
“I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but with a broken heart, I have to say that we lost a fan tonight before my concert. I can’t express how devastated I am by this. I have very little information, other than the fact that she was incredibly beautiful and too young,” the singer wrote.
Brazil is experiencing an intense heat wave and Rio de Janeiro recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Friday, with a thermal sensation that reached 59 degrees in some areas of the city.
Several concertgoers were treated by the medical services of the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium for health problems related to the heat.
At one point, Taylor Switf interrupted the concert to ask the production team to bring water to a person who was asking for it, about 30 meters from the stage.
At another time, the singer threw a bottle of water from the stage at the fans, according to images reproduced on social networks.
After the death was confirmed, many fans of the singer protested on social networks against the ban on bringing water bottles to the stadium where the concert was taking place.
The North American artist has two more concerts scheduled in Rio de Janeiro, today and Sunday, as part of her world tour The Eras Tour.
