The leader of the far right in the Netherlands, Geert Wilders, already celebrating the victory and highlights what people are waiting to see his party in the future coalition to form a Government.
“Such a strong result also surprised me, but it is a very good result. It is by far the largest party in the Dutch political system. I am very proud, but at the same time it carries a great responsibility. They expect more restrictive immigration policies and They expect to have more money to spend on their daily lives, in grocery stores. People would also not understand or accept that the big winner of the elections did not have an important role in the coalition, so we all have to be reasonable, responsible and reach a compromise on many issues to ensure that these votes are worth it,” explained Geert Wilders.
The Party for Freedom (PVV) of Geert Wilders, one of Europe’s most eccentric rising xenophobic populist leaderscould reach 37 deputies, according to the latest projections of results from the Dutch electoral committee, more than a quarter of Parliament, which has 150 deputies. For now There are no official results yet.
The fact that the House of Representatives is made up of 150 deputies means that the PVV has to obtain the support of several parties to reach the 76 deputies that guarantee the possibility of succeeding Mark Rutte at the head of the Government.
The Dutch voted on Wednesday in favor early legislative electionscalled after the Prime Minister announced the dissolution of the Government last summerdue to internal disputes over migration.
If confirmed, the Freedom Party’s victory will be greeted with apprehension in Brussels, as Wilders has promised a referendum on the Netherlands’ membership in the European Union.
