An exciting reunion. A video released by the Israeli army shows the moment a 9-year-old girl kidnapped by Hamas was reunited with her father. Emily Hand, nine years old, was part of the group of seventeen hostages released by Hamas on Saturday.
Little Emily was presumed dead in the October 7 terrorist attack
In the video released by Israeli authorities, Emily appears to run into her father’s arms after her release. Thomas Hand, the father, who is Irish, has lived in Israel for more than thirty years.
On the night of the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, Emily slept at a friend’s house in the Be’eri kibbutz, where more than 100 people were killed.
Initially, Israeli authorities included Emily, her friend and her mother among those killed by Hamas. However, it is now believed that they have all been kidnapped.
Emily celebrated her ninth birthday during the time she was kidnapped by Hamas.
The image released by the Israeli army shows another girl, Hila Rotem-Shosani, also hugging a relative after being released.
Hila’s mother was also kidnapped, but remains in the Gaza Strip.
Hila and Emily spent 50 days in captivity.
