Biden hopes the truce will extend beyond Monday

US President Joe Biden said this Sunday that he hoped that the four-day truce agreed between Israel and Hamas, which ends on Monday, extends “beyond” this period.

“My goal and ours is to ensure that this pause continues beyond tomorrow so that we can see more hostages freed and more humanitarian aid delivered” to the Gaza Strip, the US president said during a speech in the state of Massachusetts, where he announced the release by Hamas of a four-year-old American girl named Abigail.

“She is free and is in Israel.”, announced Joe Biden.

The boy was taken hostage on October 7 by Hamas during the attack on Israel that sparked the conflict. According to White House adviser Jake Sullivan, the girl “saw her parents killed in front of her.”

“She suffered a terrible trauma.”lamented the American president.

According to Israeli authorities, the Hamas attack killed 1,200 people, most of them civilians.

According to the same source, around 240 people were kidnapped during the attack and taken to the Gaza Strip.

In retaliation, Israel declared a war to “annihilate” Hamas and bombed the Gaza Strip incessantly. According to the latest data from the Hamas government, 15,000 people died in that enclave, including 6,150 children and young people under 18 years of age.

Israel and Hamas agreed, under Qatari mediation, to a four-day renewable truce in fighting and the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.
