The truce that came into effect on November 24 between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas was extended this Thursday, shortly before ending, for one more day, both sides of the conflict reported.
The truce was to end at 7:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. in Lisbon), but, a quarter of an hour before, the Israeli army issued a statement stating that the “operational pause” would continue, “taking into account the efforts of mediators to continue the process of releasing hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas, for its part, stated that the truce will last “a seventh day.”
The extension of the truce until Friday has also been confirmed by the Qatari mediator.
“The Palestinian and Israeli sides agreed to extend the humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip for one more day,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said in a statement.
