Pope Francis called on participants in the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28), which began today in Dubai, to think about the common good and not about the interests of some countries or companies.
“Let us hope that those who will speak at COP28 are strategists capable of thinking about the common good and the future of their children and not about the circumstantial interests of some countries or companies,” Francisco said this Thursday on the social network X.
That the participants in #COP28 to be strategists who focus on the common good and the future of their children, rather than the vested interests of certain countries or companies. Let them demonstrate the nobility of politics and not its shame.

The Pope urged the participants in the meeting to “demonstrate the nobility of politics.”
At 86 years old, the Pope, who suffers from bronchitis, was forced to cancel his planned visit to Dubai to participate in the UN climate conference, which will be held between now and December 12.
The Vatican will be represented at COP28 by its Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Francis, who has made environmental protection a cornerstone of his 10-year pontificate, would be the first pope to personally attend a climate summit since meetings began in 1995.
