Those responsible for Munich Airport have temporarily suspended flight operations scheduled for Tuesday morning due to bad weather in this region of Germany.
All flights were canceled or postponed between 6am and 12am local time (between 5am and 11am in Lisbon), with the airport warning that many flights scheduled later in the day could also be affected by severe weather conditions.
Those responsible for the airport, the second largest in Germany, announced the temporary closure on Monday evening due to weather forecasts.
“Conditions in operational areas will improve this morning. The plan is for air traffic to resume from this afternoon,” the airport said on its website.
“However, the majority of flights may also have to be canceled for the rest of the day for safety reasons,” the airport’s online statement said.
Tuesday’s cancellations come after all flights at Munich airport were suspended on Saturday following heavy snowfall in the city and the southern German state of Bavaria.
Southern Germany, as well as neighboring countries Austria and Switzerland, have experienced heavy snowfall that has hit public transport in the region and raised alarms about possible avalanches.
Freezing rain, also predicted, occurs when precipitation falls in a liquid state and freezes when it comes into contact with a surface.
