Venezuelan authorities indicated that 12 people died after the collapse of an open pit mine in Ikabarú, San José de Wadamapa, in Bolívar state.
“It is planned to transfer 12 bodies to Puerto Ordáz [cidade do estado de Bolívar]”, indicated, on Saturday, the Venezuelan vice minister of the Risk Management and Civil Protection System (SNGR), Major General Carlos Pérez Ampueda, on the social network [antigo Twitter].
The previous report showed 10 dead and three injured, after the mine collapse, which occurred on Wednesday, according to authorities.
The official added that the Bolivarian Armed Forces of Venezuela and the SNGR, accompanied by the president of the Gran Sabana City Council, Manuel Vallez, carried out air operations to deliver humanitarian aid to the indigenous community of Ikabarú.
“Food, medications, disposable surgical supplies, hydration and household utensils were delivered,” he said.
Rescue teams are still searching for an unknown number of miners reported missing.
The three injured, Brazilian nationals, were taken to the Rosário Vera Zurita Hospital, near the border with Brazil, they said.
In November, one person was injured after a gold mine collapsed at the same location. In June, 13 miners died in the collapse of the La Talavera mine, also in Bolívar state.
