Netanyahu, dissatisfied with the “anti-Israel” stance of the Russians when voting at the UN in favor of the ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his “discontent” to Russian President Vladimir Putin this Sunday after the vote in the UN Security Council in favor of a ceasefire with Hamas.

“The Prime Minister expressed his dissatisfaction with the anti-Israel positions adopted by Russian delegates at the UN [Organização das Nações Unidas] and other forums”Netanyahu’s office revealed in a statement.

The note was published after a phone call between the two leaders, in which the Israeli prime minister addressed international cooperation efforts between Russia and Iran, as well as “positions against Israel.”

However, Netanyahu also highlighted the efforts made by Russia to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas and other Palestinian militias.

For its part, the Kremlin stated, also in a statement, that the conversation focused on “the acute situation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and, in particular, the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.”

Putin reiterated his condemnation of all manifestations of terrorism and maintained that it is “extremely important” that the fight against terrorist threats does not have dire consequences for the civilian population.

Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip have already caused 17,700 deaths and 48,780 injuries, the Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, announced on Saturday.

The actual number of dead and injured may be much higher than revealed, as rescue services and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) cannot access all bombed areas.

The war was triggered by the attack on Israeli soil on October 7 by Hamas commandos infiltrated from Gaza, during which, according to Israeli authorities, 1,200 people were killed.

Hamas also took around 240 hostages, 138 of whom remain in captivity.

In response, Israel vowed to annihilate Hamas, which has been in power in the Gaza Strip since 2007 and has been classified as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel.
