The Guinean president promises a new prime minister “until Tuesday”

The president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, announced on Sunday that “until Tuesday” he will name a new prime minister form a new government and give continuity in the management of the country that “I can’t stop.”

President Sissoco Embalo was speaking upon his arrival at Bissau airport, from Nigeria, where he participated in the ordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Embalo stated that the situation in Guinea-Bissau was addressed at the summit, with the leaders of the West African organization “unreservedly condemned the coup attempt”occurred in the country, on day 1.

Elements of the National Guard were involved in armed confrontations with the Armed Forces after the corporation’s decision to remove two members of the Government detained by the Public Ministry from the cells of the Judicial Police.

“This week I think that by Tuesday at the latest we will have a prime minister and then the Government, at the proposal of the prime minister. The country cannot stop,” said Embalo.

The Guinean president stated that the position of ECOWAS in relation to the issues addressed at the summit, which took place in the city of Abuja, will be announced in the final communiqué of the summitbut added that the organization expressed its solidarity with the people of Guinea-Bissau.

The organization also called on the international community to continue supporting Guinea-Bissau, called for the revision of the Constitution and called for the strengthening of internal political dialogue, said Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

The president did not refer to the situation of parliament, which, however, was dissolved on the 4th, under the accusation of being a source of instability in the country, although the leader of the organization, Domingos Simões Pereira, considered the decision of unconstitutional.
