Kremlin says any US aid to Kiev will be ‘a fiasco’

The Russian presidency (Kremlin) opined on Tuesday that any new aid from the United States to Ukraine will be “a fiasco” and will not change anything on the Ukrainian war front.

United States President Joe Biden will host his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Washington today to discuss Ukraine’s “urgent needs”, despite the fact that the US government is currently facing a congressional blockade on a new aid package for Kiev before the war against Russia.

“Any new US aid to Ukraine will be a ‘fiasco,'” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a news conference.

“The tens of millions of dollars injected into Ukraine have not helped the country succeed on the battlefield. And the additional tens of millions of dollars that Ukraine wants to see injected will be doomed to the same fiasco,” he said, adding that the Russian presidency will watch the meeting of the presidents of the United States and Ukraine “very closely.”

Zelensky arrived in the United States as part of a trip that began in Argentina, where he attended the inauguration of the new president, Javier Milei, on Sunday.

The White House wants to “underscore Washington’s unwavering commitment to the Ukrainian cause” and address “urgent needs” on the ground.

Zelensky’s agenda also includes meetings with congressional leaders, including Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson.

The United States is currently the largest provider of military aid to Kiev, with approved aid worth more than $110 billion (about €100 million) since Russia’s invasion in February 2022.

But US President Joe Biden’s pledge to continue financially supporting Ukraine is being questioned by Congress.

Last week, Congress blocked a package of more than $106 billion that Biden continually requested, including funds for Ukraine and Israel.

Republican elected officials are demanding significant concessions on U.S. immigration policy in exchange for their votes.

This is the worst-case scenario for Kiev, where the counter-offensive against Russian attacks in the summer did not yield the expected territorial gains.

Blocking new funds would be “the greatest gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Joe Biden warned, warning that if the Kremlin leader succeeds in taking over Ukraine, “he won’t stop there.”
