Biden admits differences with Netanyahu government

Netanyahu spoke of “disagreements” with the US leader over his long-term vision once the conflict in the Gaza Strip is over.

“This is the most conservative government in Israel’s history,” he said.

It was the first time since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 that the 81-year-old Democrat publicly expressed his disagreements with the Israeli government.

Joe Biden, in front of Democratic Party donors, called on Benjamin Netanyahu to “strengthen and change” the executive branch, to find a long-term solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The US president believed that Israel, which is intensively bombing the Gaza Strip, is beginning to lose the support of global public opinion.

On Monday, Joe Biden had said at a White House reception to mark the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah that Israelis should be “careful” because “global public opinion can change at any time.”

The American president also spoke again about his notoriously difficult relationship with the Israeli prime minister.

The President of the United States said that Benjamin Netanyahu had a photo on his desk showing him in the company of Joe Biden when the latter was still a young senator.

The Democrat added that he wrote the following sentence on the photo: “Bibi [alcunha do líder israelita]I really like you, but I don’t agree with what you’re saying.”

“That’s still true today,” Joe Biden added, speaking to representatives of the Jewish community whom he invited to the White House.
