A boat with 50 immigrants rescued off the Canary Islands

A boat with 50 sub-Saharan immigrants on board was rescued this Saturday in the south of the island of Gran Canaria, Salvamento Marítimo reported.

The boat was located after 8 a.m. local time, same time as Lisbon, near Amadores beach, in the municipality of Mogán.

Spanish Maritime Rescue provided assistance to the immigrants, all men, and transported them to the port of Arguineguín.

The number of immigrants who entered the Spanish Canary Islands irregularly this year exceeded 46,800 people on November 16, the highest number ever recorded, according to data from the Government of Spain.

Between January 1 and November 15, 46,862 people entered the Canary Islands irregularly, more than in the entire year 2006, which until now registered the record of arrivals (31,678).
