Pope Francis considered this Saturday that it is necessary to defend Christmas from the current commercial and consumerist model that is, in his opinion, absurd.
During an audience with the artists of the Christmas concert, which will be held tonight, the pontiff affirmed that Christmas is perhaps the richest holiday in popular songs that combine simplicity, theology and harmony.
In this sense, the Pope told the artists that each one will contribute their originality, their voice and their talent.
“This is beautiful because different voices from different parts of the world will sing for the birth of Jesus,” he said.
The Christmas gospel is unique, but it cannot be sung uniformly, he stressed.
And he adds that “the tendency of the technocratic model is, on the contrary, to standardize and standardize.”
“Art is something different and Christmas songs must be sung with an art that comes from the heart. We know, unfortunately, that Christmas is also a victim of this commercial and consumerist model,” he reinforced.
That is why Francis asked people to defend Christmas.
Pope Francis, who will turn 87 on Sunday, will preside over midnight mass, a traditional celebration of the Catholic Church, on Christmas Eve in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
On Christmas Day, at 12:00 p.m., the pontiff will perform the traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing in the portico of that temple.
