The European Environment Agency warns that the EU must “urgently” reduce climate pressure

The European Union (EU) could fail to meet most of its environmental objectives for 2030, especially efforts to reduce climate pressure related to production and consumption, the European Environment Agency announced this Monday.

According to a report published this Monday by the agency, the 27 member states will be able to achieve other, albeit smaller, objectives.

“For example, the percentage of ‘green economy’ in the total economy is likely [europeia] continues to increase and that premature deaths attributed to exposure to fine particles decrease in line with the action plan to end pollution,” added the European Environment Agency.

Quoted in the statement accompanying the report’s publication, the agency’s executive director, Leena Ylä-Mononen, called on all European countries to “urgently strengthen actions to achieve Europe’s environmental and climate ambitions” before the end of this decade.

The report notes that there are “high ambitions” for the EU to achieve the climate goals it has proposed and which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen insisted on at the United Nations climate summit in Dubai.

However, some goals “need to increase the pace by two to nine times” to achieve the expected goals.

“Overall, stricter implementation of legislation by Member States, with progressive policies and measures where necessary, and their widespread implementation, is urgently needed,” the European Environment Agency added.
