A group of families of Russian soldiers deployed in Ukraine called Monday for the return of their relatives and demanded that Russian President Vladimir Putin end the war.
Members of the Telegram channel “Way Home,” made up mainly of wives and mothers of mobilized soldiers, accused Putin of “pushing people to their limits” and demanded an end to what the Kremlin calls a “special military operation.”
“We Russians have no hope left under your leadership. Sit at the negotiating table”the group said in a message addressed to the Russian leader.
“Let’s live in peace! Or go to the front line yourself and die there”they added.
About 300,000 reservists were called up to increase the number of Russian troops in Ukraine, as part of the partial mobilization announced by Putin in September 2022.
The ‘Way Home’ group’s message was accompanied by a video of an alleged mobilized Russian soldier expressing disappointment that Putin had ignored the request for a one-year service limit for mobilized soldiers.
“I used to watch [conferência de imprensa anual] Direct line to our President and there is no hope or sign that our mobilized soldiers will return home in the near future”said the soldier.
Putin answered dozens of questions from Russian journalists and citizens during his Direct Line program last week.
The military offensive that Russia launched in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 caused the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II (1939-1945), according to the most recent UN data.
The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian president on the need to ‘denazify’ and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by most of the international community, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and impose economic sanctions on Russia.
