Prague police report an unspecified number of deaths and injuries in a shooting at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in the center of the Czech capital. Police say the attacker was shot.

Authorities called on residents to avoid that part of the city and not leave their homes as the police intervention is still ongoing.

According to a university professor quoted by the Czech newspaper Blesk.cz, students and staff received an email on Thursday afternoon to protect themselves. “We are barricaded on the second floor, the shooting must have taken place on the fourth floor,” he told the newspaper, assuring that he heard many shots.
A similar email was also received by staff at the School of Arts and Industry, which is also in that area of Prague, saying: ‘Stay seated. If you are in an office, lock it and put the furniture inside. at the door. Remove the lights, the shooter is probably on the fourth floor of the building on Jan Palach Square,” said the email, quoted by Blesk newspaper.
