East Timor President promulgates 2024 state budget

The President of East Timor, José Ramos-Horta, This Friday the State Budget (OGE) for 2024 was promulgatedannounced the Timorese Presidency in a statement.

“After its promulgation, the President handed the OGE to the president of the national Parliament, Fernanda Lay,” the statement added.

The Parliament of East Timor approved on Wednesday, in a final global vote, the General State Budget for 2024. with a total value of 1.95 billion dollars (1,780 million euros) with 41 votes in favor, 23 against and no abstentions.

In sectoral terms, the OGE foresees 788.2 million dollars (732 million euros) for economic issues, 389.6 million dollars for environmental protection (361.8 million euros), 467.1 million dollars (433, 8 million euros) for social protection, 140.9 million dollars (130.8 million euros) for education, 66.2 million dollars (61.4 million euros) for health, 45.2 million dollars ( 41.9 million euros) for housing and collective infrastructure, 55.3 million dollars (51.3 million euros) for security and 34.9 million dollars (32.4 million euros) for defense.

The Timorese Government considered the approval of the budget as a “fundamental step in building a prosperous and sustainable future”which reinforces the executive’s commitment to “drive economic growth, strengthen government institutions and improve the well-being of citizens.”
