The head of Ukraine’s armed forces believes the number of casualties will make Russia give up

The leader of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, argued on Tuesday that it is necessary to continue inflicting casualties on the Russian army until Moscow decides to abandon the war due to the high human losses.

“I once said that one of my biggest mistakes was to believe that the amount of losses we inflict on the enemy can hold him back, because that would happen to any other country, but that is not the case with the Russian Federation”stressed Zaluzhni, quoted by Ukrainian and Russian media.

Zaluzhni emphasized that there are “mountains of Russian corpses that no one is trying to remove.”

“Every day more and more people appear and unfortunately this is Russia’s attitude towards its own people”orphan.

For the head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, it is currently difficult to predict how many casualties Russia will be able to endure before the war ends.

Still, “I believe it is necessary” to continually inflict casualties among the Russian army “until he refuses to continue hostilities against our country”he added.

According to Kiev, Russia lost 354,960 men in battle in the 671 days of war, while the BBC’s Russian-language service and independent portal Mediazona confirmed at least 39,424 deaths.

Zaluzhni assured that Ukraine is doing everything possible to adequately respond to Russian plans in 2024, including in the technological field, to avoid a “stalemate in the war.”

“We have identified these problems and have already found about 90% of the solutions to these problems, which will need to be solved in order to trade more efficiently next year and, most importantly, to help people [vivas]”Zaluzhny emphasized.

The leader of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also indicated that he had not submitted any request to the government regarding a specific number of people to be mobilized, after President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leader of the ruling party in parliament, David Arajamia, stated that the armed forces army had requested between 400,000 and 500,000 additional troops.

Valeri Zaluzhni stressed that any explicit estimate does not imply the immediate mobilization of soldiers.

And he expressed the hope that the soldiers currently fighting at the front can leave the army “after 36 months” of military service, which would be in 2025 and only under two conditions: if there is no escalation at the front and if someone is that to replace them.

However, he warned that this target could be very difficult to achieve given the realities on the ground.

Zaluzhni also emphasized that it is not up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to judge the choice of Ukrainians currently abroad.

The Ukrainian government has already sent two bills to parliament to improve the mobilization process, which provides for a two-year reduction of the recruitment age to 25 and measures against those who escape recruitment, including electronic notification of summons.

‘Everyone must defend Ukraine’not just those who joined the military in 2022-2023, Zaluzhni noted.

The military offensive that Russia launched in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 caused the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II (1939-1945), according to the most recent UN data.

The Russian invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by most of the international community, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and impose political and economic sanctions on Russia.
