“At CDHD we demand the freedom of all Venezuelan political prisoners. We hope that the rest of the military, civilians and women will regain their freedom before the end of 2023,” he stressed.
On the other hand, the CDHD expresses concern “that the health status of political prisoners is deteriorating and that their families fear for their lives”, stressing that “many have been denied medical attention and others have been deprived of medicine, causing harm .for their physical and mental health.”
“There are women, of all ages, who have been deprived of their liberty for political reasons, who have been singled out, accused and sentenced to prison terms of up to 30 years, even though they are innocent. We will continue to raise our voices for each of them,” the CDHD emphasized in another message.
Adrián de Gouveia de Sousa, who according to sources in the local Portuguese community is of Portuguese descent, was a major in the air force and was arrested on May 20, 2018 while on his way to work at the General Aviation Command, in eastern Caracas . .

On the other hand, the major of the Bolivarian National Guard (military police), Abraham Suárez Ramos, who according to sources from the local Portuguese community is also of Portuguese descent, was arrested on May 27, 2018, along with seven other military personnel, accused of involvement for crimes of treason to the country, incitement to rebellion, mutiny and insulting military decorum.
In September, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expressed concern about his health status, saying he had attempted suicide, and he was rescued by a cellmate and taken to the Dr. Carlos Arvelo Military Hospital in Caracas. .
