France lives a national strike: a protest to last?

Less than a month after the first mobilization in various professional sectors at the beginning of the school year, several unions again appealed to the strike movement this Tuesday, October 18, throughout France. All workers, public and private, were called to stop working to demand better wages and the right to strike.

Throughout the day, disturbances are expected in schools, canteens, train stations, administrations, post offices or even health services.

The CGT calls on the workers not to work. “We can thank all the workers because a few days ago there was not even talk of wage problems and purchasing power. They managed to put the issue at the center of the debate.”

The strike could be renewed, which worries public transport passengers. “Due to the lack of fuel we don’t have cars, but if you add the stoppage of trains, I don’t know how we are going to do it,” says a passenger. On the other hand, there are those who organize themselves to stay at home during teleworking: “I’m trying to organize myself and prioritize teleworking, I hope it doesn’t last long”.

The public transport network of the French capital continues to guarantee, throughout the day, two of three meters and buses to Parisian passengers.

Resources are multiplied in the civil service and the functioning of schools will be disrupted. “The strikes at the refineries and this current situation caused the movement to spread nationwide. It is necessary to insist on the demands for wage increases this Tuesday so that, perhaps, the strike resumes.

A snowball effect that also reaches health professionals, garbage collectors or even drivers.
