Iranian drones, used massively in recent days by Moscow to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, are a symbol of the “military and political bankruptcy” of Russian troops, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday.
“The very fact that Russia is asking Iran for help is the Kremlin’s recognition of its military and political bankruptcy,” Volodymyr Zelensky scoffed in his daily speech posted on social media.
Severance of diplomatic relations?
“For decades, (the Russians) spent billions of dollars on their military-industrial complex, and ended up bowing to Tehran for fairly basic drones and missiles,” he criticized.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran said it was ready to hold talks with Kyiv to clarify claims it called “baseless” that Tehran was supplying Russia with weapons and drones used in its invasion of Ukraine.
Ukraine asked the European Union on Monday to impose more sanctions on Iran and Ukrainian diplomacy offered President Zelensky on Tuesday to break diplomatic relations with Tehran.
“In view of the extensive destruction caused by Iranian drones to the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine, the deaths and injuries caused to our people (…) I submit to the consideration of the President a proposal for the severance of diplomatic relations with Iran, The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, in a video posted on Facebook.
