The famous young wizard Harry Potter will appear on a coin collection in the UK as part of celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the release of the first book in the series written by JK Rowling, it has been announced.
“The Royal Mint is launching a collection of delightful coins to mark the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” the British body that prints coins and banknotes said in a statement.
The collection will feature four pieces, including a drawing of Harry Potter, but also the Hogwarts Express train, Professor Albus Dumbledore, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
According to the Royal Mint, the pieces include an optical effect that mimics the impact of “lightning” when rotated in front of light.
This effect is generated thanks to a state-of-the-art laser that gives the coins a “magical” appearance, but also protects and certifies them.
Released in 1997, the seven-volume series chronicles the adventures of a young wizard named Harry Potter at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his fight against Lord Voldemort, a dark wizard seeking immortality.
Book sales for the series run into the hundreds of millions of euros, while the eight films generated billions of euros in revenue.
The collector coins revealed by the Royal Mint also include two coins illustrated with portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September, and another two with the official portrait of King Charles III.
