Meloni invited by the Italian president to form a government

The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, Giorgia Meloni, was invited by the president, Sergio Mattarella, to form a government in Italy, the secretary general of the presidency announced on Friday.

Meloni, 45, assumed responsibility, becoming the first woman to be called to office in the country’s history and is still presenting the composition of her government, which is expected to take office this Saturday morning, at the Palacio del Quirinal.

Meloni received the mission of forming a government after winning the September elections and the agreement reached with his coalition partners, Matteo Salvini, from the League, also from the extreme right, and Silvio Berlusconi, from the conservative Força Italia, dividing ministries and other positions . .

Even today, he must return to the Quirinal to deliver the list of executive members to the head of state, since the Italian Constitution establishes that ministers are appointed at the proposal of the chief executive to the head of state, who has veto power.

The transfer of powers with the outgoing Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, will take place with the holding of the first Council of Ministers.
