Russian attacks cause serious damage to Ukraine’s power grid

Ukraine’s electricity distribution network operator, Ukrenergo, warned that the damage to energy infrastructure caused by the Russian attacks on Saturday could be more serious than that caused by the attacks that took place between 10 and 20. October 12 °.

Ukrenergo anticipated that the Russian troops will carry out this Saturday “another attack with my own against energy installations of the main electrical networks of the western regions of Ukraine”, adding that “a magnitude of two damages is comparable or can exceed the consequences of two attacks of 10 to October 12 °”.

According to EFE, the Ukrainian electricity operator said in a statement that its repair teams will begin work on restoring power as soon as the emergency services finish their work.

“Ukrenergo specialists are taking all measures for the early restoration of power supply in the regions that have been left without electricity,” the statement added.

The affected areas include, in addition to kyiv, the Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia and Kirovohrad regions.

“The consumption restrictions are necessary to reduce the load on the networks and avoid repeated failures after the electrical networks have been damaged by terrorist missile attacks,” the operator stressed.

Missile strikes on October 10 caused infrastructure damage in more than 30 villages, followed by more shelling in the following days.

Between October 10 and 18, Russian forces attacked and destroyed 408 Ukrainian infrastructure facilities and damaged a third of Ukraine’s power plants.

Due to electricity shortages as a result of the Russian attacks, Ukraine was forced to introduce power cuts.

This morning an air raid alert was issued for the entire Ukrainian territory, which lasted three hours, during which the Russians carried out attacks in various regions of the country.
