The statements by Moscow, which accused Ukraine of preparing to use a “dirty bomb” against Russian forces, are “obviously false”, according to the foreign ministers of France, Britain and the United States.
“No one would be fooled by an attempt to use this accusation as a pretext for escalation. In general, we reject any pretext for escalation on the part of Russia,” reads a press release published by the Quai d’Orsay.
Discussions between Moscow and Paris
Earlier in the day, Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Choïgou. He recalled that “France rejects any form of escalation,” in particular “nuclear,” BFMTV learned from an Elysian source.
According to the overnight statement, Shoigu also held talks with his British and American counterparts.
“We remain determined to continue our support for Ukraine’s efforts to defend its territory for as long as necessary,” the statement from the representatives of Paris, London and Washington also read.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday also rejected Moscow’s accusations that Kyiv was planning provocations using a “dirty bomb.”
“If Russia calls and says that Ukraine is preparing something, it means only one thing: Russia has already prepared all this. I think that now the world must react as harshly as possible,” Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media.
