The trial for fraud and tax evasion of the Trump Organization, Donald Trump’s family business, opens this Monday in New York, an embarrassing show for the former president who, however, is not a personal target of this criminal component.
This trial, which will begin with the selection of juries, is related to accusations of irregularities in the company’s accounts since 2005 and of having concealed from the tax authorities the compensation received by the group’s leaders.
The Trump Organization in talks to sell its Washington tax-avoidance luxury hotel involving $1.76 million in unreported income between 2005 and 2021.
Almost two million dollars undeclared
This close friend of Donald Trump is accused of having taken advantage of undeclared benefits in kind, including an apartment in a luxury neighborhood in Manhattan, the rental of two Mercedes for him and his wife, or cash for their vacations. .
He will be one of the key witnesses in the trial against the company, currently run by two of the former president’s sons (Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump) and owner of real estate investments, hotels and golf courses, among others. Two subsidiaries, Trump Corporation and Trump Payroll Corp, are in the crosshairs.
“Allen Weisselberg admitted in court that he used his position at the Trump Organization to defraud taxpayers and enrich himself personally,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in August when the former CFO pleaded guilty.
“The agreement reached with justice directly links the Trump Organization with a wide range of criminal activities,” he added.
Under the settlement, Allen Weisselberg, in particular, must pay nearly two million dollars in taxes, with penalties and interest, and testify at trial. Until now he has always refused to personally testify against Donald Trump.
