Jair Bolsonaro’s ally resists arrest warrant shoots policemen

Former deputy Roberto Jefferson, an ally of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, resisted an arrest warrant this Sunday and shot two federal police officers in the city of Comendador Levy Gasparian, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The former deputy himself recorded and broadcast videos saying that the police tried to arrest him, but that he did not turn himself in, shooting at the agents. Sources quoted by the ‘media’ add that he also threw grenades at the police.

“I’m not going to give myself up. I’m not going to give myself up because I think it’s absurd. Enough, I’m tired of being a victim of arbitrariness, of abuse. them,” Jefferson said in a video.

At least two policemen, a delegate and an agent, were injured, not seriously, according to local media.

The former deputy has not yet turned himself in to the police authorities, according to local media.

“I have determined the Minister of Justice to go to Rio de Janeiro to follow the development of this unfortunate episode,” Jair Bolsonaro wrote on the social network Twitter.

Roberto Jefferson tried to run for the Presidency of Brazil for the Brazilian Labor Party (PTB), but his candidacy was rejected by the Justice. So he put in his place his vice-presidential candidate, Father Kelmon, who declares himself a member of the Orthodox Church, at the head of the PTB campaign.

Father Kelmon has supported Jair Bolsonaro since the first round of voting, defended the President and the Government in debates and attends campaign events of the current ruler. On Saturday he was in Guarulhos in a campaign event together with Bolsonaro.

An ally of the head of state, Jefferson is investigated in the investigation that investigates the activities of a criminal organization that would have acted to attack the democratic rule of law and was under house arrest.

The former parliamentarian would be arrested again for failing to comply with a court order that prohibited him from using social networks after appearing in a video broadcast on these platforms in which he criticizes the judicial system and calls the judge of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Carmen Lúcia a prostitute.

After the incident, the two candidates for the Presidency of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro and Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, spoke about the case.

“I repudiate Mr. Roberto Jefferson’s statements against Minister Carmen Lúcia and his armed actions against PF agents. [Polícia Federal]”Bolsonaro wrote on Twitter.

Later, however, the Brazilian president criticized the investigation that led to the ally’s arrest in the same message, stating that he also repudiated “the existence of investigations without any basis in the Constitution and without the actions of the MP. [Ministério Público]”.

Lula da Silva, for his part, told reporters, when asked about the case, that Jefferson’s reaction “is not normal behavior, it is not appropriate behavior.”

“I don’t know what he [Jefferson] He said, I don’t know if he’s doing a ‘live’, what he’s talking about. What I do know is that it is not appropriate behavior, it is not normal behavior,” said the candidate of the Workers’ Party (PT).

“The offenses that this citizen, whose name I prefer not to mention, made to Judge Cármen Lúcia, cannot be accepted by anyone who loves democracy, who likes the truth. No one has the right to use the blasphemies that he used against an ordinary person. much less against a person who holds the position of judge of the Federal Supreme Court”, she added.

Years before becoming a supporter and ally of Bolsonaro, Jefferson supported Lula da Silva and ended up in prison for having participated in a vote-buying scheme in Congress known as “Mensalão.”

The second round of the Brazilian elections, disputed by Jair Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva, takes place on October 30.
