British Prime Minister Liz Truss congratulated her successor, Rishi Sunak, and promised “full support”.

The former finance minister was the only candidate to receive the required support from at least 100 of the 357 Conservative Party MPs.
As leader of the party with a parliamentary majority, Rishi Sunak will be appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom by King Charles III, after Liz Truss meets with the monarch to inform him and formalize his resignation.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin was the first foreign official to speak out in congratulating his future counterpart.
Relations between the two countries have become tense in recent years due to ‘Brexit’ and the impact on Northern Ireland, a British region that shares a land border with Ireland, which is part of the European Union (EU).
“I look forward to working with you, as British Prime Minister, on the important issues facing us on these islands and around the world,” he tweeted.
